Science: The Life Cycle of a Seed

Virtually every classroom has tried growing their own plants. Some to more success than others, let’s be honest. But whether it’s the communal garden or crest seeds in the classroom – it’s the go-to lesson kids love watching. -the life cycle of a seed.

“Why is mine not growing?”

Sometimes for kids, its hard to figure out what changes they should be looking out for – after all this Science activity is on the longer side of things. Plants don’t grow in an instant.

The below stop-motion video is a great demo of what they should be looking out for.

Examine – As a teaser before planting have the kids watch this and note down all the major steps in the seed’s development.

Predict – You can ask them to predict when they think their seed will hit this milestone – knowing what to expect is half the battle.

Compare – they can use their original hypothesis and put down things their seed done differently (grew to the side, bigger, different colour etc.)

Analyses – why was it different? Was it the seed? Sunlight? nough ater? Why was it the same? What do all seeds do the same?

At any rate, the video below is beautiful – well worth a view!
